Joel Dominguez Salsa Bio
Joel was born in November 29, 1976 in Mexico City. He was raised listening to tropical music. At the young age of 12 years old, he began to learn more about the dance. With no previous dance training, he began to follow and imitate the best street dancers out there. He is what we call a true lyric dancer. He was born with this talent to dance Latin music. It is in his blood!
It wasn’t until the year 2000 when he discovers a Cuban style of dancing called “Casino Rueda”. Joel had the opportunity to learn from one of the best Cuban Instructors in Mexico City, who also gave Joel the opportunity to dance Casino Rueda in one of Gloria Estefan’s promotions for her new CD “No Me Dejes De Querer” in Mexico City. This year was also the first year where Mexico was selected to participate in the World Wide Salsa Congress in Puerto Rico. This prestigious event inspired Joel to learn more about this beautiful style of dancing called “SALSA”
This lead Joel to take his first salsa class a Mexican instructor Rafael Munoz who was now residing in Germany. After this class, Joel began to create his own style of dancing salsa soon after he began to win local Salsa Competitions.
In 2001, Joel begins to teach salsa. He enjoyed dancing salsa so much that he wanted to transmit this joy to the rest of the world. He wanted to show everybody what he knew to increase the salsa community in his city.
Later in the year 2002, his interest to learn more and to spread to other places brought him to Dallas, Texas. Soon after arriving he wins his first USA Salsa Competition that March and soon after a second win in May. Wining the Texas Salsa Open realizes his life long dream which was to be part of the prestigious Puerto Rico Salsa Congress where it started it all.
Then he also had the opportunity to participate in more World Wide Salsa Congresses such as the biggest one in the world the West Coast Salsa Open for the years 2004, 2005, 2006 and 2007, Texas Salsa Open 2004, 2005, 2006 & 2007, San Francisco Salsa Congress 2004 & 2006, New York Salsa Congress 2005, Boston Salsa Congress 2005, Houston Salsa Congress 2004, 2005, 2006 & soon 2007. He has had the honor to take workshops from such talented dancers from around the world.
He has been teaching in Dallas, Texas since 2002 to share all his knowledge and dancing skills to his students to help grow the interest for this dance and this music.
In addition to performing, choreographing, teaching, and promoting SALSA, Joel is a professional personal trainer.
